Vermont Librarian Certification
:: 2024 Guide
Librarian certification, or licensure, is Vermont’s process of gatekeeping the profession: making sure there is a base level of knowledge for all certified librarians and school-aged children are not exposed to individuals with a criminal history. Currently, school librarians and public librarians are required to possess certification prior to employment. However, virtually all other types of librarians are also subject to the educational requirement of a masters degree in Library and Information Sciences for entry-level positions.
