South Carolina Librarian Certification
:: 2024 Guide
Librarian certification, or licensure, is the process South Carolina implements as a way of gatekeeping the librarian career. In South Carolina, only school librarians and public librarians are required to hold certification prior to employment. Reason being both librarians work with school-aged children and are in charge of implementing important educational programs for the community.
For other types of librarians in South Carolina, there is still a strong barrier to entry in the form of an educational requirement of a masters degree in Library and Information Science for entry-level positions.
